In 2004, Altaf Hussain first arrived in Vattakanal with a group of Israeli backpackers. A skilled chef who had mastered Middle Eastern cuisine working in Goa's vibrant restaurant scene, Altaf immediately fell in love with the misty mountains and the warm spirit of this remote village perched at the edge of the Western Ghats.
What started as a humble falafel counter in 2011 has grown into Vattakanal's most beloved gathering place. Altaf's Cafe became a home away from home for travelers from around the world—a space where the authentic flavors of the Middle East meet the tranquility of mountain life.
Over a decade later, Altaf's Cafe stands as a testament to passion, authenticity, and community.
